73 Overheating..(and more)

Since you mentioned the heat riser, I'd start there to be sure it is open.
The one on my 60 used to move by hand & I accidentally closed it & the car
started to overheat. I also had a 66 many years ago that I eventually
discovered the real hot running to be part of the inside of the muffler
broke off & was plugging the exhaust. This was after the pressure side power
steering hose broke twice from the extreme heat & started a fire both times.
