Vinyl tops & floor wax

Howdy all,
 I just got my '66 Crown Coupe back from the shop
after having work done & was talking to my mechanic.
He's an older gentleman with lots of experience. We
were talking about the Vinyl top on the car & he
suggested using Aero Floor Wax on it. He said they
used to do that at some of the car lots. Has anyone
tried this before? I wouldn't think it would hurt
anything, but I had never heard of this. I had heard
that Armor All tends not to be such a great thing to
use.

Any comments would be welcome.
